Welcome to my photography site. I've had quite a few requests to see more of my photos on the web. This is a start--there are many, many more and I am adding to this site as time (and energy!) permits. You'll notice that the "Events" and "People" areas are still rather empty (although expanding slowly). I have a lot of photos that need to be added, but haven't had the time to do so. Someday it will be updated!

I've had a lifelong interest in photography dating back to a 4-H course I took when I was young. For quite a few years, I made do with a pocket 110 camera but always yearned for a "good" one. When I was in my early 20s, I finally purchased a Pentax. What fun I had! I eventually purchased more lenses for it and finally upgraded to Canon cameras. I have literally thousands of images tucked away in boxes in a closet. Because I enjoy riding motorcycles, "picture taking" is a great reason for just hopping on my bike with no destination in mind other than to shoot a few pics along the way.

I've carried my "good" cameras on my Harley for a few years now. At first I was afraid that the vibrations would affect the little gizmos inside that make it work its magic, but it has fared just fine. I wrap it in a sweatshirt and tuck it in the tourpack where it stays safe and dry. Before that, I carried an original edition Olympus Stylus camera--the one before the zoom version. I like how I'll often hear people say to me, "I want to buy an expensive SLR camera so I can take pictures like you..." I dare you to pick out the images on this site that were taken with the little non-zoom Olympus pocket camera (sometimes while zooming down the road on my bike!) and the ones that were taken with, as I like to say, "big guns" Canon camera and lenses. I hope it's my "eye" that allows me to get good photos and not just dumb luck!

Around 2001 or 2002 , I purchased a used digital camera--surprisingly an Olympus that looked a lot like my original Stylus pocket camera except that it was a bit larger and was silver instead of black. Back then, I didn't want to invest much money in a digital camera because I didn't consider it to be "real" photography. However, I did have a blast with it because I could shoot and shoot and it didn't cost any money! It turned out to be a whole new world and I found that I enjoyed it much more than I expected. The end result was that in 2003 I bought a nice little Nikon Coolpix 4300 4MP camera. It took fantastic pictures. I ended up using it all the time. I hardly ever got out my SLR film camera, except for when I wanted to take the time to do better work, or needed the variety of lenses I've got. I grew to love the "delete" feature on the digital. It allowed me to be a bit freer with trying new things because I didn't have to worry about the cost.

Well, as luck would have it, not too long after I purchased the Nikon, Canon came out with a reasonably priced digital SLR, the 6.3MP Digital Rebel (or D300), that would use all my Canon lenses! I lusted after it, but told myself that it was (much) more than double the cost of what I paid for the Nikon and I already had a nice SLR and really didn't need it and the Nikon was new and easy to carry with me when I needed it. I kept telling myself that until April of 2004 when I finally gave in and bought one. I haven't touched a film camera since. The DSLR is all I use now--I haven't even touched the Nikon since then! Some of the photos from this camera are on this site--see if you can pick which ones they are.

In 2005 Canon announced a new digital SLR, the 5D. It had a full frame sized sensor! My lenses would behave as they should and I'd get wide angle back! This camera was much much more expensive than my Digital Rebel, but once again, I lusted after a new camera. Apparently I talked incessantly about it because one day CrowDog asked me what it would do better than my current camera. Aside from the fact that the large sensor was eons ahead of what I currently had, it had a HUGE buffer so I could shoot faster and not have to wait for the images to be saved and was also more than double the resolution (12.8MP vs. 5MP). There were multiple other reasons that this camera would work much better for me, especially for my wildlife photography. CrowDog shocked me when he said he'd buy one for me. So I pre-ordered it and got mine in October of 2005. I absolutely love this camera. One of these days when I'm not so lazy, I'll starting adding photos from it. It's incredible.

Enjoy my site and my photographs and please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and/or comments at flhtcui1995@hotmail.com.
